New to GR Community on Lemmy

I am new to Lemmy, and was in the local Reddit version of this community. It doesn’t look like this community gets a lot of traction here, but it’s very refreshing actually. I’m used to Reddit where I get muted or banned for being critical of the Capitalist class. I’m used to so many more bots. And I am so relieved that this platform is not poisoned yet with whatever Reddit has become

Hey there and welcome!
I finally had enough with r/grandrapids and Reddit in general.
But mostly r/grandrapids. I have no idea how there are so many subs. It is not a serious place and the trolls (and mod) make a very frustrating community
That’s about the 20th time I’ve said it…but I’m for real this time 😅
Anyway. I’ve messed around with lemmy/piefed before in this sub (or whatever they call it here) by posting an article related to the whole city comptroller situation. Got downvoted and no comments.
Then I made accounts on 5 different servers because those servers kept going down.
So I decided to run and host my very own piefed instance.
Not ideal, but much better than what ever is going on in r/grandrapids 😘
Yeah, I mean I’ll pop back and forth once in awhile to catch local happenings around the city. But overall, and I can’t quite put my finger on it, the atmosphere has felt different. It feels like the engagement has significantly dropped, like Reddit did some algorith shift on the backend to over-control votes/downvotes. I was banned from the r/grapids one too from one of the rogue mods there, but whatever.
Oh what I was going to say about the city comptroller thing is Max Frantz is baiting the public.
His office was being investigated for misuse of fundsThere were allegations coming from his office about mismanagement before he started going around to the media. He’s had several court cases to prove that the City is doing something illegal, and he can’t get the proof. He’s also MAGA and wants to keep MAGAing in a city position.i know what you mean about r/grandrapids. It feels way off.
I have no way to prove this, but being the 2nd largest city in a swing state seems like it would be targeted by trolls/propaganda groups.
Where do you get your info about the Frantz situation? ive read some articles on woodtv, mackinac, and mlive...but they are all basically the same article. I didnt know about his MAGA tendencies, but that makes sense with how the media is portraying it.
Heck, any recommendations on where to read up on the local elections in general?
Alright, I edited my previous statement. Not mismanagement if funds, but mismanagement of his office. But this is the article that talks about those allegations, which was right before he started targeting the City Manager.

About him being MAGA, he follows the Heritage Foundation on LinkedIn. With that said, it is definitely an intentional choice to follow the Heritage Foundation.
