Why? As critical as I am of the DSA for being reformist and not a democratic centralist organization, attacking imperialism is critical as organizers within the imperial core. The problems of imperialism are interrelated with domestic issues, we cannot separate them.
I'm saying there are more proximal motivations for people to vote. Imperialism is going to be, at best, an abstract concern for most people. At worst, people see benefits from imperialism.
Do you wish the federal government would stop sending $200,000,000/yr to employ people in Palm Beach County's defense industry? Do you long for the day when countries can't be unfairly influenced to give us access to their resources and markets? Would you like to spend even more money on gasoline? Vote DSA this November!
The fact remains that imperialism is intrinsic to every struggle faced within the US. It isn't a secondary issue, it's primary, along with settler-colonialism. Any organized socialist party needs to agitate along these lines. Again, I am critical of the DSA's reformism and lack of democratic centralism, but the core message of anti-imperialism should be the basis. Workers aren't stupid, they can fully comprehend the requirements for liberation, and to do so a correct line needs to be agitated.
