Just of note, this is the top-selling device in Q2 2026. I don't know if you know about this, but everything is expensive in 2026, so it makes sense that less budget-conscious consumers have bought smartphones. This means it's a lot more likely for an expensive device like the S26 Ultra to be at the top right now, since people with the money to shell out over $1300 for a smartphone are more likely to buy a new phone.

Odd addition at the end of the title lol. It's like it's unusual for a product to be the most popular for the first time. As if it goes straight to the second time and skipping the first time.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding and need to read the article to fully get it, but I'm not biting.

The opening line gives a hint:

Android phones are never the top-selling smartphones globally, but the ones that get closest are almost always budget models.

The "first" is that a premium phone is the top selling Android phone, whereas usually it's a budget phone.
