Comments section merging is great!
I crossposted a meme to a local community, then sent My partner the crosspost link. My partner clicked on it, then saw My comment on the original from the crosspost and replied to it. It was really cool.

Yes it's pretty cool. Here's another example, where someone made a Lemmy post which got no responses but people were talking about the same url on Mastodon, so those comments got displayed:
