This is both heartwarming and heartbreaking in that one dude spent two years buying 160 boxes of crayons when some billionaires spend hundreds of millions on lobbying efforts to defeat wealth taxes.
Based on wording, I assume this man either doesn't have a job, or like many people is severely underpaid. My brother in law is autistic and has programs that help him with employment, and usually he is paid less than minimum wage, but apparently it's legal because "he's disabled" and blah blah blah regulations.
It would take him quite some time to save that money if he didn't live with his parents in government housing and receiving medicaid and food stamps.
That was my point. He's living in poverty and the schools are shockingly underfunded if they need donations of crayons and it's presented as a feelgood story.
My son finished kindergarten last year, he's autistic so he has a regular classroom and a special Ed classroom that he switches between. I bought snacks for both classrooms throughout the year as a thank you to the teachers and they were really happy. They usually have to buy snacks so the kids don't go hungry on top of how little they're paid. This repeats for supplies. I helped there too. They were so grateful I got the impression they've had to choose between supplies for the kids and their own needs. I live in a high cost of living area, there's no fucking excuse for this. Preying on the compassion of teachers to save a few fucking bucks is so deplorable and it's happening all over the country. Can't we make having humanity great again ffs?
I mean $250, isn't nothing. lf you just happen to buy a single box of crayons when doing your shopping you wouldn't notice it, doesn't take any real thought. And then after a couple years you probably think "yeah this is enough to be worth donating".
