I used to be excited for new phone launches, but nowadays most of the presentation is focusing on AI this AI that. Nearly all the brands have resorted to this, Google is pushing Gemini into everything (even the hardware gimmick is tied to it this year), Samsung has their weird "Galaxy AI" (Bixby 2 Electric Boogaloo), Apple has their bits and promising "privacy" when your data is fed into OpenAI, and the Chinese brands are all buzzwords now (though you do occasionally get glimpses of really neat camera hardware, it always pivots towards even more AI bits scattered around the OS)

The only brands not doing this are Fairphone (who seem to genuinely care about the design of their devices and it's super interesting to see them talk about it!) and I think Sony too with their Xperia line (but their devices are not as interesting, they are still good being one of the only ones with headphone jacks but there's not much innovation going on)

tbh it's been more than a decade since the phone market got extremely not interesting
