Wilson Order Tees Up Sweeping Traffic Safety Changes, Accelerating Projects

The five-part order directs changes across multiple City departments intended to improve safety outcomes. Most notably, SDOT will speed up work on a slate of Vision Zero projects, and start to include intersection daylighting in routine work moving forward.

It does not serve us to continue to pretend that deaths due to cars are somehow a category apart from other causes of death. Not only can we implement reforms to save lives, it is morally imperative we do so

"Certainly, it is important for us to focus on all types of public safety,' Lin said. "You know, youth gun violence has been devastating, again for South Seattle in particular, but for some reason we talk about transit traffic safety differently. We too often see it as just part of everyday life, as if it's not something that we have the ability to change or control. And I think that's why, for too long, it has been normalized, and it has allowed us to to not take the urgent action we need to to take."
