I haven't seen a horrific derailment like that since True Blood season 3.

Alternative spin: you are the guardian of the hive, only you have been given the genetic power from the queen to protect us when our enemies are at the door, we all rely on you. Also I don't think ants can build doors!
I'm pretty sure they sometimes send a sacrificial ant or two out at night to seal up an entrance from the outside.

The ant: I am the apex of a line of ancestors that gave me both a purpose and the ability to fulfill it. I could not ask for a more perfect existence.
Maybe it makes the ant super happy? Some lifeforms might enjoy their jobs, even though it's a difficult thought for me as a corporate underling.
