Never Apologize For Being a Class Traitor

Every time a right winger points and laughs at a socialist who was born rich, it should be understood as a desperate attempt to justify their own moral failure to themselves. If you grew up rich and are now a leftist and someone points that out, the proper response is: “Yes I am. Why aren’t you?” I do not believe that there is any plank in the DSA platform that says that nobody is allowed to live in a brownstone that their dad bought. What they say instead is: If your dad has enough money to buy a brownstone, he should be paying higher taxes so that we can build more affordable housing for people who can’t afford brownstones. A rich kid who nods his head and agrees with that assertion and works to raise taxes on himself in the name of social justice is not guilty of hypocrisy at all. He’s exhibiting a commitment to basic fairness. That’s nothing to be ashamed of. Every rich person is morally obligated to do this. It’s the ones who aren’t class traitors that we need to worry about.

Telling people what to think is not a good look.

In what way is this quote telling people what to think?

Because it tells you to disbelieve the accusation based solely on the person making it and not the merit of the argument. It's a thought terminator. To be clear, I despise conservatives but I also don't care to be represented by people who have no idea how bad their constituents have it - no matter what team they claim to play for. They don't represent me because they can't comprehend me to begin with.

So... What, someone can't recognize problems and do everything they can to fix them and make lives better for everyone just because they happen to be in a better spot than you? What a wild and depressingly dumb take.

Pretty sure Mamdani came from (and currently lives) a better life than I did growing up, but I'm still pretty happy with the things he's doing

Before moving into the mayoral residence, he lived in a single bedroom rent-controlled apartment. Nice try.

Ayup, much nicer than I had growing up, so my point still stands, and you're still an idiot

I'm sorry if you think someone renting a one bedroom apartment puts them beyond the capacity to consider the issues you face in your daily life, but calling me an idiot isn't going to make it better.

While I agree with the blurb, the headline typically suggests the opposite direction

I have always felt that rich people should feel even more of an obligation to pay taxes, because they have more to lose in the case of a major invasion or civil disorder. The dirt poor already operate on a day-to-day basis. If civil society disintegrated, they are the best ones to survive on very little.

OTOH, the rich are only rich because all their brokerage accounts and property deeds say they are. Those are only worth something because the laws (and banks and brokerages) agree. If the shit hits the fan, it doesn't matter what the property deed says, people only own things they can defend by force.

Don't worry, they're building bunkers and drone armies to do exactly that.

Yeah, if the bourgeoisie don't get taxed adequately the proletariat can't use the clean and paved roads to travel via the well-funded public transportation to patronize the shops who rent your buildings out.

You reached the end
