Uber is a perfect capsule illustration of how foul and destructive corporate culture is.

It was a simple and effective concept that has been completely destroyed just to pay enormous piles of money to a bunch of parasites.

I mean, it was only ever effective because it replaced existing taxi services with an unlicensed and unregulated alternative. I'm not sure those taxi services were exactly better than all these rideshare companies, but I doubt they were worse.

In a fair number of places where rideshare companies targeted first for their rollout, taxi companies were definitely worse. Places like NYC already had informal (and illegal) ride-sharing services because the cab system was absolute shit and lobbied hard against any changes to make them better.

Now, many years later, the cab companies have definitely updated and are way better than they used to be. As we've seen, the ride-sharing companies are now the shitty ones.

Effective in what sense? Uber didnt become profitable until 2023. And that profitability is only from the backs of its drivers. Uber only works in our fucked up capitalist society

How does one stop using Uber in a country that doesn't have public transport?

Most places have alternatives that may be bad, but not Uber-level bad. Ideally local (most have apps these days) or even one of the other bigger competitors e.g. Lyft, Grab, etc.
