A family moves to Hong Kong

The daughter, Lyn, is able to fit in and make friends without difficulty. The son, Ving, is having a much harder time of it. After a while trying and failing, he tells Lyn "I think the problem is my name. Ving is a rare name, even back home, and people here don't even know what I'm saying. At best, they think I'm calling myself a thing, and... Maybe it would be better if I changed my name to something common, like Lee. Then I'd fit in."

The two head to a government office and start filling out the paperwork to change his name, which is easier than they suspected. Ving writes down his new name and submits the documents, only to start having doubts about the entire process. "What would dad say if I abandoned my name? I'm not sure I should do this."

Lyn offers support. "Don't worry. I'm here for whatever you want to do. If you need me to pay the cancellation fee and stop the paperwork going through, just say the word."

At that moment, their father comes through the door. He sees his son, nervous and ashamed, and brings him into a deep hug. "Don't stop. Be Lee, Ving. Hold on to that fee, Lyn."
