Looked it up because why the heck wouldn't they do physical exams of soldiers?? Turns out the British army didn't do physicals for officers in the early 1800s, which is just so British.
I mean, you used to be able to buy the rank.
You can get an officers commission for a bachelor's degree in some places, not much has changed
I've read that during wartime, as long as the women soldiers were pulling their weight no one cared as it was another rifle or sword on your side of the fight.
More likely no one said anything, but I'm sure a lot of people knew or suspected something was off.

Im certain someone allways knew and were allies to these woman in man jobs. But since they were supportive they kept their mouth shouting and didnt left any written evidence
