Sigh. Mixed feelings. I absolutely understand the need to transition the global vehicle fleet to electric vehicles powered by sustainable and renewable energy production. Between environmental impacts and the sheer ungodly amount of corruption/war/destruction associated with the oil industry, moving away from oil and gas is probably the best single thing humanity could do right now.
But goddammit I love the sound and feel of internal combustion.
Unfortunately the electric cars being produced right now are just as bad as gas powered cars. Not to say you cant throw a battery in older cars and have a great little electric car for going around town, but the ones being newly produced are irreparable, single use, spyware ridden, pieces of shit made without the slightest concern the impact lithium battery mining and plastic production has on the environment. Maybe the upfront environmental cost will be offset by driving it for 10 years over a gas car that only dirtys the environment more the longer you have it, but a diesel converted to run off wood pellets(or other) or those prototype hydrogen engines are the only real alternatives for an environmentally friendly future. (Unless battery tech gets real environmentally friendly real quick)

Spyware is true of (almost) all modern cars. It also has nothing to do with its drivetrain.
Most analysis puts the break even point of EVs around 25k miles, depending. I should see if that's changed recently - I think when I last checked, NMC was the main chemistry. LiFePO4 is likely to be even better. But even that's ignoring any secondary life on the batteries, including grid storage and recycling into new batteries
I genuinely have no idea what you mean about them being irreparable and single-use. Every dealer can repair them, along with countless independent shops for most brands. I suppose there are a few parts that are dealer-only, but it's a small minority.
