AN OPEN LETTER TO ARTHUR BLANK, MATT RYAN, KEVIN STEFANSKI, AND THE ATLANTA FALCONS
AN OPEN LETTER TO ARTHUR BLANK, MATT RYAN, KEVIN STEFANSKI, AND THE ATLANTA FALCONS
Gentlemen,
I am writing today on behalf of a rapidly growing and completely reasonable constituency known as People Who Have Seen Enough: Start Jack Strand.
Yes, I know. He’s an undrafted rookie from Division II Minnesota State-Moorhead. That’s apparently supposed to discourage me.
Unfortunately, somebody forgot to tell Jack Strand.
The man is 6’5”, 240 pounds, finished his college career with 13,161 passing yards and 126 touchdowns, and ranks 10th all-time in Division II passing yardage.
Then Atlanta gave him an NFL uniform.
Through two preseason games, Strand has completed 18 of 29 passes for 262 yards, thrown zero interceptions, and rushed for two touchdowns. Against Indianapolis Saturday, he went 12-of-17 for 212 yards, threw a touchdown, ran for another, and posted a 132.5 passer rating.
So, Arthur. Matt. Kevin.
I understand there are depth charts. Contracts. Draft capital. Veteran experience. Long-term organizational plans. Probably several impressive binders and spreadsheets explaining all of it.
I have conducted my own analysis:
Jack Strand looks like he can freaking play football.
Therefore, I respectfully request that the Atlanta Falcons do the only rational thing:
Promote Jack Strand to QB1 immediately.
Is this an overreaction to two preseason games?
Absolutely.
Do I care?
Absolutely not.
Atlanta has spent enough years doing things the conventional way. Every once in a while, football drops some enormous, undrafted Division II quarterback on your doorstep who starts slinging the ball around like he accidentally wandered into the wrong league.
Sometimes you just have to see where that story goes.
FREE JACK STRAND .
Give the kid the keys.
Respectfully,
A Falcons fan who is completely prepared to deny writing this letter if he throws three interceptions in Week 1.
