People trying to avoid automated duplicate detection. Some dupe detector bots use ocr on images with similar layout. Subtle changes to where text lands in the image, plus changes in the text itself, might be enough to fool automod tools and prevent a post from being taken down.

the image I found this from was cropped poorly horizontally

What’s weird is that it seems like the S was left out for some reason, such as if someone pasted “amsung” and didn’t bother to correct it. I’d expect the first letters of each line to be similarly truncated, but they aren’t. Quite the mystery.

The R in RTX 5090 is also cropped, and snapchat indents the text chat enough that the messages are still okay. Minor mystery solved?

Like the other person said, dupe detecting bots can use ocr, and changing text like cropping out one letter might be enough to fool it

Is there any advantage to having a higher framerate than the screen's refresh rate? Seems a bit redundant to me.

Yes. It lowers the input latency making the game feel smoother and more responsive

I play simracing games in VR and lock my frame-rate to 90 to match the Quest 2, or 60 if I'm playing on my 15 year old Samsung TV. I feel no input lag though my force feedback wheel.

That's because you will notice the inout lag only if you play any competitive game, for everthing else it's not noticeable

Not for average day gaming.

However competitive fast action shooters might give you a little advantage

It gives you lower latencies but you will not notice unless you play a competitive game or some timing based one (like Osu ig) so just don't worry much about it

There isn't. But monitors are set at default to 60Hz. You have to go into the settings and change it yourself. Then games might not support that refresh rate. But setting the games refresh rate to unlimited, and capping it at your monitors Hz with software, is the simplest solution. You can set fps caps with Nvidia software, I don't know about AMD.
