That British ships continued to illegally carry slaves isn't exactly news, the West Africa squadron's original task was hunting them down.
Then they invented indentured servants to replace slaves, and the Navy ensured a global monopoly meaning even other empires had to pay Britain for cheap labour. Only ended in the mid-1920s.
