Hot take: after lunar colonization we should put our effort of outer planets Settlement
i think that the colonization of the Jovian and later Saturnian moons would be a better option then the colonization of Mars firstly it's much easier to transport stuff from a Moon then an Atmospheric planet which allows for faster orbital and surface infrastructure to develop secondly there are a lot of eggs around jupiter and saturn Allowing for multiple Colonies to exist and if one of them goes extinct the others can survive thirdly it has economic benefit due to the Moons being well Moons with lots of volatiles in the far future we can build large freigthers to carry the various minerals towards earth to either use them in cislunar space or in earth itself

Why not the Martian Moons, Phobos and Dymos?
I know one of them is close enough to Mars that it will eventually crash into the planet, so maybe not that one. Even then though, I think that's supposed to take tens of thousands of years.
Phobos and Deimos seem like the worst of both worlds. They're inside Mars' gravity well, but they don't have enough gravity of their own to collect volatile chemicals (e.g. water) or prevent bone loss in astronauts.
If you're not going to the surface of a planet or large moon, you might as well build a station in the asteroid belt.
The main reason I thought of them is that they would be easier to come and go from than the surface of Mars itself.
I guess I was more thinking about using them as a waystation before going down to Mars and you could put humans on Aldrin Cyclers back and forth between Mars and Earth.
They're pretty small, very low gravity, one of them is basically just loosely bound gravel.
They're okay as landing and launch sites, not much to mine there.
It's certainly a hot take to think humanity is going to last long enough to colonize any other celestial body.
