Using the law of conservation of matter and extending your own logic, matter (mass) can never be created or destroyed, only transformed, so weapons of mass destruction don't exist.

That's mass distribution, possibly state alterations.

I can't believe the people replying to me...

Einstein is famous for E= mc^2 . That's literally the equation that describes how much energy you get from destroying mass. It's the core of why nuclear power produces so much energy. A tiny tiny amount of mass is converted directly to energy. Mass gone. Energy here.

Fwiw, I was just just trying to be funny, and I think many, myself included, are thinking about the results of setting off such a bomb and the effect it would have on the surrounding mass.

2

They literally function by converting mass into energy (thereby destroying the mass). What is that if not mass destruction?

Deciding if this belongs here or in Dad's jokes 🧐

The ones that suppress appetite by reducing the intake of new mass so less of the prior mass is replaced as part of the normal bodily functions. The drugs themselves don't remove anything.

Laxatives move the mass away from the body.

Fun fact, most of the weight you lose is exhaled through your lungs :3

11

Common misconception :3 the spleen actually exhales the spleen juice

2

The more you know, I've always assumed most weight would be lost though heat absorption via the skin 😮

2

The "mass" in "mass destruction" is referring to the quantity of the destruction, not what is being destroyed.

The definition of mass being used in this context is an "a large quantity, amount, or number"

Think of it like, "massive destruction"

So, you'd have to be thinking of an amount of weight loss beyond what anyone has seen before.

7

Ridiculous. This would violate the law of conservation of mass. WMDs are not physically possible.

Another question, should we be using weight loss drugs when we're already concerned about the amount of carbon being released into the atmosphere?

Everyone should get fat as a carbon sink? Maybe, if at the end we can have natural burial, but if we are cremated isn't it all going to be released into the air anyway?

5
lemmy.world

Everyone should get fat as a carbon sink?

Now that is something. If everyone in the world just put on 10kg we'd lock up about 83 mega tones of carbon. Then we just need to bury people in a way that gets that carbon locked up on the ground.

Decommissioned salt mines, next to the iron barrels of un-bound toxic waste that Germany for some reason decided to store there.

2

It is radioactive waste in iron barrels, we Germans only do the most idiotic things!
