FediHood is free software for talking with the people around you, by topic [Fediverse and now open source]

https://fedihood.social/about

FediHood is a social network built around the place where you live. You choose a city and the topics you care about, then read what neighbours are saying and join in.

It stays a normal fediverse app. Your posts can reach Mastodon, PixelFed, Misskey and the rest, and posts from those servers reach you too.

Technical comment:

Sign-in from the web uses a JWT.

JWT is not meant for staying signed in for a long time, because they cannot be revoked without logging out everyone on the website. They are meant for short-time sessions only. The OWASP Session Management Cheat Sheet doesn't even mention them as a possibility for session management.

Make it so you can browse without an account. I'd like to look before committing to signing up (as many other people likely will, too)

Looks cool! There is no AI disclosure and only one commit. Was this made without AI?

How neat! I just signed up, not really expecting anyone to be nearby just yet. Turns out there's one other user in my entire state, and we chose the same city. What are the odds?

I hope this catches on, it seems cool!

This is awesome! It solves the "global" feed problem of mastodon, since it allows to post to certain topics, and by limiting the feed to local people, there is a lot less irrelevant stuff.

You reached the end
