Backpack camping in Indiana

Can anyone recommend some good places for the fall, possibly in or around the National Forest? I’ve been camping a lot in campgrounds over the past few years, and I’m looking to do a single night hike out, camp, hike back trip before the end of the year if it’s possible.

In HNF there's at least one long (>20mi) ass trail. You can camp anywhere not near a campground... Not 100 on HNF but probably also not near water sources. If you want people, North chunk of HNF... If not, south/main chunk. The main/southern chunk has the trails and is much larger. Marengo is worth it as well.

I recommend digging into the maps and info on the parks website... There's a lot there and in the park. With any NF it takes a lot of digging or time on the ground to find it.

Cool, thanks for the info! I’ll dig around and see if I can get over there one weekend and scout it out.
