Slipping faster is good. That means it’s releasing the tension before it builds up and snaps into place. It’s the big snap that causes a big quake.
The author of the article is trying way too hard to imply that the study predicts more and worse earthquakes.
For example, they open with:
Which just makes me laugh. They clearly just checked the USGS site for the largest recent quake in the area, and might not even realize just how puny and mundane a 3.9 is.
