It’s a tinkerable phone

Except the core component of the phone is an optional accessory that is “coming soon” …

The only part needed is an LTE modem which is a standard part. They're selling one that's garaunteed to be compatible. You can bring your own.

Apparently you can add a 4/5G modem as a m2 addon card.

I initially funded the kickstarter only to cancel my pledge before it ended. Nonetheless I intend to get one of these once they’ve been released, if only to tinker with and see what it can do. If it’s able to function reliably as a phone (and hopefully a LoRa device as well, ideally at the same time) I’ll make the switch. Regardless it seems like a nifty lil pocket computer that has a lot of potential. Hopefully it avoids the pitfalls of earlier attempts at modular handheld devices and effectively utilizes the open pin connections and 3d-print tech of today. I suppose we shall have to wait and see. Definitely intriguing.

I'm old enough to instantly ignore every new attempt of making a modular phone.

Its nifty but from what I understand its not a phone. No phone calls.

And there is now "taco"s that emulate their hardware at the bottom for conventional phones. I would love to have it mind!
