The lawsuit comes after the Iowa Office of Civil Rights issued a Tier 1 Investigative Report in November 2025 finding probable cause to believe DAS and the governor's office discriminated against the group over its 2024 event. The finding called for further investigation and was not a final determination that discrimination occurred.

The lawsuit also asks a judge to let the group hold a holiday event at the Capitol this December while the case moves forward. The ACLU is seeking a preliminary injunction ordering the state to approve the group's application for its Dec. 12 event in the Capitol Rotunda. The lawsuit also seeks compensatory damages and an order requiring the state to handle future applications without discrimination.

KCCI reached out to the governor's office and the Iowa Department of Administrative Services for comment on Thursday's lawsuit but did not hear back.

TST doing the Lord's work. I hope they win. Nice of the ACLU to be helping out.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa has filed a federal lawsuit on behalf of The Satanic Temple after the group was denied permission to host an event at the Capitol rotunda.

I saw a clip of some Christian folk being asked their opinion on a nearby church place of Satanic worship and the general vibe is what you'd expect: they had no idea what Satanism is, generalised and bullshitted that it's just a performative show by the members to be visible, like a long-term publicity stunt. They try yapping shit about it but haven't bothered to learn one iota and realise that they have no argument.

That has to be trolling, because Satanists don't have churches. Well, TST does have an art gallery that you can go to in Salem. I guess that counts.

It was in Salem (awesome location btw) so perhaps, if i had paid more attention.. It would've been the Satanic Temple. It was on passing on a Twitch stream and I cannot find the source :(

The Church of Satan and The Satanic Temple are two very different organizations.

The fact that they thought that "Krampus costume contest" meant "we're going to beat children" is just so ridiculous. Nobody would dare to block a Catholic event with children attending, and the Catholics have multiple verified cases of children being abused by them, over decades, with coverups!

10

Yeah, but they're also known for raping kids and that's considered a family friendly Republican Christian Nationalist past-time.

No more having youth involved in costume contests that depict weapons used to abuse youth.

What a massive victory over a very real and serious problem that was definitely the state’s main concern
