Seems like performative outrage. I don't think Wong is actually stupid enough to expect a different outcome after the years she and her government have spent coddling and defending Israel.

It is more that they assume the people of Australia are stupid after decades of stupidly voting for the duopoly, while pretending one side of it is left of centre, and cares about Australians.

People often refer to the alp as left (just as the do with the democrats in the usa), but they are just the other side of the duopoly coin, 100% right wing and not a trade unionist party, they haven't been for a long time.

New South Wales Labor is moving away from the trade union base, but otherwise Labor is very much still controlled by the trade unions. If you pay close attention to what Labor does they do actually have strong left-wing credentials. Under Labor renewables have been rolled out rapidly, world leading anti tax-avoidance policies, repealed negative gearing and the capital gains tax discount, etc.

Australia's political system favours centrism (or at least the appearance of it), but Labor's actions tell a different story.

We should also probably make some definitions to avoid confusion:

  • Progressive: Supports the fair treatment of all people, regardless of race, gender, religion, or disability.
  • Trade unionist: Supports workers rights and high salaries for the working class.
  • Economically left-wing: Supports welfare and wealth redistribution, as well as trade unionism.
  • Left-wing: All of the above.

“Israel investigated itself over the killing of an Australian citizen and concluded nobody is criminally responsible. This absolute impunity is an insult to the memory of incredible aid workers like Zomi Frankcom,” said Sarah Schwartz, Executive Director of the Jewish Council of Australia.

“A court came to decision that there’s no criminal liability, so we’re not going to lynch people on the streets, no.”

Hmm... unless they're Palestinians. https://www.aljazeera.com/features/longform/2025/8/14/the-day-israeli-settlers-lynched-two-young-men-in-the-west-bank

The Israeli regime and its apparatchiks have become so self-engrossed and mired in their own lies they have lost any credibility. Even if the ambassador (trained in diplomacy?) genuinely believes the story of why the aid workers were targeted he has not shown any common human decency or diplomatic decorum by expressing some sort of regret and condolences for the innocent life lost.

EDIT: He has said some nice words but no apology.

It is well overdue he is sent packing and we stop selling parts for war weapons to Israel as Chris Sidoti has stated: https://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/radionational-breakfast/israeli-ambassador-should-go-home-chris-sidoti-says/107056640
