Hell, even if we can't pull off getting the state renamed to Cascadia or something Duwamish it could be renamed to fucking Lincoln, it's an acceptable compromise to fall back to.
And yeah I'd prefer renaming DC away from being named after a slaver (and another slaver), but I see that as way less feasible than renaming the capital of Ohio (Columbus, many of the locals don't like the name).
The naming of WA was one of the most obviously stupid and easily preventable decisions this country has made. It was very close to being named Columbia after the river, which while also part of the name of the capital and close to the name of a country is at least distinct
way back when, around the time the northwest was being formally organized, some rep from kentucky proposed 'washington' as an alternative to what it would have been, 'columbia' (for the river), because 'columbia' was part of the name of the nation's capital. the absolute moron had no brain cells left over to process the fact that 'washington' was also a conflicting and confusing name for a state for the same fucking reason.. but congress jumped on board the idea of naming a territory (and what would become a state) after the first president.

I say remerge Oregon and Washington together again, there's no real reason why the western portions of the Oregon territory were broken up.

Damn, that's beyond stupid. That's like saying I don't want to name my kid John because it's Trump's middle name, so I'll name him Donald.
