I want to make a post about a piece of art I made, but it would give out my first name.
How safe is it to post my first name online? I’ve already posted photos of myself so I’ve sorta committed already but I want to be wise.
So far I haven’t made any enemies so hopefully nobody’s out for my head 🤞
Edit: I did it 🙃

Buddy, I’m rockin’ my full legal name, first and last, as my username here, and nothing has come of it. Not even a single gallery exhibition. :(
But also no creeps.
LOL I’m happy nothing bad has come of it. Your photos are absolutely amazing, you deserve better :)
Thanks!
But I wouldn’t stress a first name, especially if you have a common one. You’re doing alright.
Check out threat modeling.
Also, this article from the Electronic Frontier Foundation:

You can post it on an alt account, so your main account isn't publicly tied to your IRL name. (possibly on another lemmy instance)
Obviously, if you'd do it now after already having provided context with this post, it would be obvious. But maybe later.
Personally, I don't think the first name is thaaat sensitive. If I wouldn't be too hesitant to push anyone, I'd agree to just post it without any fuss.
Im an open book lol, pretty sure people know like almost exactly where i live now. Brooke is my name so thats a thing lol.
Obvi only share what youre comfortable with. ❤️❤️
Is d’Smile a French surname?
Haha possibly 🤔🤔
Is your first name common, at least in your area of the world? Or is it exceptionally rare or unique. That would be the determining factor for me at least.
You could stripe out the name in the art (replacing it with a different watermark if you will)? I do that with my art.
