Conservatives just say things to try to justify their emotions, or to seek power. They don't really care about truth or consistency.

The whole point is playing to emotions instead of reason. Your emotions are more powerful than your reason and if they can get their hooks into your anxieties they can get you to vote against your own best interests.

It's the political version of that legal community saying - "If you have the facts on your side, pound the facts; if you have the law on your side, pound the law; if you have neither the facts nor the law, pound the table"

So if you have the best idea for governance and the best implementation in the way of policy, push and focus on the good policy. If you don't have that, use emotion and appeal to an emotional base.

Every argument in transient, it's made on the spot to serve a purpose then forgotten entirely. Why arguing them is like to nailing ketchup to the wall.
