What's the meaning of the word "rule" as used in Lemmy titles?
In many meme posts the author will write a title of the form "______ rule". But looking at the context of whatever is posted, it never seems to be a use of the word "rule" as traditionally defined, not even a rule of the internet (or at least not one I'm aware of). Tried looking on Urban Dictionary, but it didn't help. Is there any meaning to this use of the word "rule" in titles or is it simply an imitative fad?

On 196, there's a rule to post before you leave (see the sidebar/community description depending on which UI you're using). "rule" means they couldn't think of a good title; i.e. they're just following the "post something" rule. It's popular to come up with something punny though involving "rule" if you can.

That's a common misunderstanding. Sadly it is impossible to discredit because it would require reading the rules :(

It is from the 196 subreddit. Some people are unoriginal and can't come up with a title, or a new gimmick. Look up that sub to find the answer.
Some communities ask in the rules that you reference one of the rules to verify that you read the rules.
Whenever a post just says "rule" or similar, i would recommend looking at the rules out of curiosity.
