Didn't be already figure this out back in 2013when he went from The Avengers (Loki's gonna enslave the planet) to Iron Man 3 (domestic dispute between Tony and Pepper)? Or from Guardians of the Galaxy 1 (save this one planet) to 2 (save ALL the planets) to 3 (save these specific kids)? Or from Avengers Endgame (time travel! Thanos! Tony Stark dies!) to Spider-Man 2 (Peter Parker has a rough school trip in Europe)? Or from Spider-Man 3 (multiverse!) to Dr. Strange 2 (more multiverse!!) to Thor 4 (hey we should probably stop this one murderer)? Or, speaking of Thor, how about Thor 1 (Loki sneaky) to Thor 2 (SAVE ALL NINE REALMS) to Thor 3 (save just one realm) to the aforementioned God-killer manhunt in Thor 4: More Thor Lore?
I feel like this isn't a new lesson for Feige. Or, at least, it shouldn't be.
IIRC, it was Joss Whedon who was talking about needing to make Age of Ultron more personal because there was no way to outdo the first Avengers movie in terms of spectacle. I don't recall Feige saying it. However, it still should have been a principle he's understood since then. Of course, then again, nothing here says that he's claiming it's a new revelation for him.
That's fair. Though the escalation in films over the past twenty years does make me think he keeps forgetting the lesson.
IDC about "going deep", whatever that means. I'm happy they had him swinging around doing spiderman stuff. I don't go to a marvel movie looking for citizen kane.
