I'm just a lurker without schizophrenia SzPD, but I'm here. I have an anxiety disorder which impacts my memory so I also forget important things more often than I'd like. I just try to accept it for what it is and move on because shit happens and I know I'm more capable than my brain likes to admit. Don't be too rough on yourself.

schizophrenia

Not the same thing. Schizoid personality disorder (a.k.a. SzPD) is very different from schizophrenia.

Oh, sorry, only joined today. I'll have to look into that.

Edit: welp, I looked it up and took a couple tests and now I'm pretty sure I have SzPD too.

Yeah, SzPD has a reputation for being super rare, but my theory is that it's not as rare as people think.

I think SzPD's reputation for being rare among those seeking therapy is well deserved, but I think it's probably more prevalent in the general population than is estimated.

Definitely not trying to influence your self-diagnoses or anything, but yeah.

(Also, I suppose I should mention that SzPD and autism present very similarly and if SzPD seems to fit you, it might be worth checking whether autism fits you better or worse. That said, I do think I'm much better described by SzPD than autism and SzPD is probably much more often misdiagnosed as autism than the other way around.)

I'm here.

Full disclosure, despite being the sole mod of this community, I don't have (and have never taken any concrete steps to get) a diagnosis. I've just done a lot of research on schizoid personality disorder (a.k.a. SzPD) and it feels like that label describes me very well. (Plus lots of informal SzPD tests online, answered as honestly as I can, seem to agree.)

If you're looking for resources, The SzPD community on Reddit was very active when last I participated there and there's a discord about SzPD which has been very helpful to me. (Though I can totally understand not wanting to be involved with either Reddit or Discord.) It would be great to have more of a community here on Lemmy, but honestly I'm not sure how to make that happen.

Whatever the case, welcome! I'm definitely glad to have any amount of activity here.

I just checked in because my life partner, though resistant to receiving mental health care, certainly seems to be described by schizoid personality disorder. I have schizoaffective (bipolar-type) disorder, and it takes its toll on me, as he has gotten himself wrapped up in his spiritual beliefs, which, believe me, as someone who also knows the Earth doesn't exist, I understand the struggle of the spiritually inclined, but in his pursuit of achieving a monastic existence with much solitude, he has hurt me with an excess of manipulation and deception. I know much of this has to do with the trauma involving his mother, who has already traumatized me as well, but we struggle, is what I'm saying. We have fantastic moments, and our love goes on and on, but I am plexed over the nature of what to to and how to understand him further. He has been so great to me, and I have been so horrible to him, but this is where I don't know what to think. He lied about having HIV to control me; he used my delusions of being a cop against me. There are some things near-unforgivable that I observe, and still I forgive them for I can still believe it is all for my benefit. I was taken advantage of by a cult, though, so I don't know which way is up. This is just me though, and I'm just typing. Hope you're well and the world keeps spinning well for you.
