Actually, it's government regulation.
And Anthropic did definitely not kill the competition, quite the opposite in fact with the open source models coming out of China.

It's a legal requirement by the EU, to help identify AI-generated content.
And why are they mad?
Because they get caught cheating.
i think its a good thing, except to the extent that it will tend to make people complacent in the expectation that ai output will have a verifiable 'tell'
