Are you a new supporter? The blog and podcast have been around for decades now, and for a while they were one of the best known podcasts and fan blogs. If you're not new, it's interesting how things have shifted that someone might not know about them pretty quickly.

No, I just randomly got the post in my feed and lol'd on the "arse" part (childish, I know) :D

I'm not into sports in general, so I didn't know about the blog before. I still find it funny, but good funny, no hard feelings :)

Ah, cool. That's pretty funny that you got Gunners in your random feed. It's so low traffic, I don't think there are even a dozen regular users.

Anyhow, "Arseblog" is a well-established, well-respected fan-run blog about the Arsenal team. The founder is now even making enough that he can afford to hire "reporters" to cover the club. And yet, at its core, there's that funny, maybe childish, joke. I like it.

I think Andrew, the founder, was in his 20s when he started it. He's now over 50, so maybe he'd do things differently. But, it definitely is memorable.

I have my feed set to "New", I think, so I get a lot of random stuff there — that's what I like about it :)

And the blog indeed looks very cool! I love this kind of stories when the nice things grow and develop, and DON'T get enshittified over time.

Yeah, the blog won't be all that interesting to you if you're not an Arsenal fan. But, as a fan it's amazing. One thing you may notice is that it doesn't have any advertising. The guy who runs it encourages people to subscribe to Patreon to support the site, and there are some Patreon exclusives, but the basic site, the news feed, the podcast, etc. are all free without ads.

Other than Fediverse sites and things like Wikipedia, finding a site without advertising is so rare these days.

I think a lot of people have used Lemmy less and less now after the main Reddit migration wave that we came in on. I use it less nowadays too tbh, basically just for this community plus some memes and a tiny bit of doomscrolling. It just isn't at that size of social media where it manages to become fully self-sustaining.

AFAIR, the OG Arsenal FC fan site was called arseweb.co.uk This was possibly late 1990s, but I definitely was reading it in about 2001/2. Things were different then…but it does mirror a particular aspect of British/Irish psyche (the founder of Arseblog is Irish), which still persists. It would have been a no-brainer to call your handcoded HTML fan page ArseSomething.

It was originally just a blog about the men’s team but the cover the women too now.

It was originally a blog about arses, but then Andrew learned there was a club that actually called themselves "Arse-null", so the blog pivoted to focus on that club.
