Thanks for checking in on me and standing up for me re the Reddit post, pals.

Rough times over here but everyone’s alive so it can’t be that bad. Miss you! ❤️

It’s so good to see you around Lemon.

We were worried about you and have been keeping an eye on when you’d come back.

It’s a very friendly space here if you need to talk or just vent into space as well if you feel like you need to.

Anyway Welcome back!

13
aussie.zone

Yay you're here. We've missed you. Please check in anytime. It's soooo nice here without smartarses. Yay.

12
aussie.zone

I'm almost scared to go check reddit but it's great to see you here 🍋

10

Hi there! I was u/Positive_Complaint over there, and I occasionally contributed but mostly lurked. Sorry people were such jerks about your post.

aussie.zone

This year just keeps giving. Got some bad news at doc today and being sent for scan on Monday. Currently panicking about cancer.

15

Sending you best wishes and hope everything will be ok.

7
aussie.zone

😭😭😭 just got an email from the palaeontologist guy I sponsor on patreon, he was contacted by Make a Wish who asked him if he could take a little kid on a dino dig. The kid just loves dinosaurs. He and the foundation seeded a beach area with bones and megalodon teeth and the little kid had a great time finding them all .

13
aussie.zone

Must've blown that kids mind!..... Fast forward 30 years to this isn't as easy as I remember...🤣

um, it's from Make a Wish. The little boy might not even make it to ten. 😭 But I hope he lives a long life. 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 ----------->>>

no matter, I hope your joke comes true. 🤗😘

but really, when I got the email and photos I cried and cried. I just help out this amateur paleo and he shares his trips and his finds and I have learnt a lot ( and he has even found new species ) but to help with Make a Wish, I never imagined

Garden is looking good today, I really should be doing some weeding. Image is a magnolia with a hot pink rhododendron in front on a sunny day

12

Yes apparently prior owners were keen gardeners as we have lots of well established trees.

3
aussie.zone

Yeah...I miss the opportunity to say right on lemon and post a 30 rock gif

4
aussie.zone

What the actual fuck? Why be an arsehole to someone offering a room? People are nuts over there, glad I left.

3

No worries. I did it and she replied so I know it work. Sent a link and every fink. She knows we're here.

2
Duenanreply
aussie.zone

I’ll send her a message if someone hasn’t done so already.

Can’t believe how hostile they are to her in that post.

3

I'm going through all my papers and I found this

::: spoiler spoiler ::: And I'm keeping it. Forever.

11
aussie.zone

::: spoiler My miniature garden aqueduct is working well. I have an old sink near here that I use for garden stuff which is not plumbed to drainage, so I put the green tub under it to collect the water, which I used to just empty directly onto the garden. I have a bunch of concrete spoon drain pieces and bricks from old paving around the house, so created this to take most of the water across to the base of the apricot tree. A fair bit leaks along the way too keeping other plants watered.
:::

11
aussie.zone

This reminds me of an invention that a friend's dad made at a party. He cut a large pvc pipe long ways, suspended it on bricks and had a bucket at the end to collect the waste for his lemon trees. It was a homemade urinal around the side of the house.

6

I went to a week long event where a few guys put handles on potted lemon trees and carried them around as personal pissoir

4

If it ends up being El Nino I'm gonna do a similar thing with buckets and watering the garden. The budget didnt go as far as a water tank this year.

4
aussie.zone

Well Dymocks has now confirmed that the basic contact information has been stolen and published on the dark web.

That might explain the barrage of calls I’ve been getting and ignoring since Monday.

Don’t like that my date of birth is out there now with my name.

9

Ahhh so that's why.... Fuckin dymocks. Took a month for my order to get here and on top of it all now this.

5
aussie.zone

I had to activate my new debit card. I couldn't quite do it on the phone so I called them and I failed the security questions so now I have to go into the branch so they can ID me. I've been flagged. Lol

8
aussie.zone

Can't remember your first pet's name?

straight to jail.

First car?

also jail

7
aussie.zone

No. None of those. Where and when did you last use your card and for how much? Idk I can take a guess. Which I did and apparently wrong answer.

6
aussie.zone

That is just WILD! How do they expect anyone to remember that? I could possibly give stores but amounts are just, no

2
aussie.zone

I know right. All I know is I failed that part of the interrogation. I failed adulting. I failed at technology. I don't deserve a debit card with my own cash.

3
aussie.zone

Oh it's okay, I don't think many people could remember exactly. You haven't failed.

3
aussie.zone

Taking my sun prescriptions right now eating peanut butter toast and having a vanilla latte satchel while listening to a podcast.

Will have to move soon after as my long pre order is ready for pick up and I’ll get a haircut too at the same time and pick up some coffee supplies, hash browns and maybe some fruit juice?

8

First half done. Now need to motivate myself to go out and get the other stuff done!

5
aussie.zone

Sounds like a great start to a solid R&R break! Please remember your prescription is to be taken once daily

3

It was so nice I think I spent way more time than I was meant to.

Have to get moving now to get my haircut and supplies.

3
aussie.zone

Eh? I planted the spinach seeds 4 days ago and they’re already sprouting. The cat grass took so much longer.

I think I sowed them too thickly as well, should have left room for more staggered plantings. Wasn’t paying attention to what I was doing. The carrots were definitely sown too thickly and will 100% need thinning once they’re up which feels like a waste of good plants.

I might just leave the spinach as is, uproot any that get ratty and reseed the empty spots. Or thin some of them for microgreens. (Might do that for the carrots too as the tops are edible.) It’s possible some will bolt when summer hits unless they’re brought inside.

I really wish I could plant pumpkins and zucchini or tomatoes but cannot take on that much garden

8
Taleyareply
aussie.zone

zucchini aren't much harder than cucumbers, tomatos can be pissy but go gang in hydroponics. I've grown pumpkins and watermelon in a 50cm pot up a trellis. You only get a couple of fruit, but they're whoppers

3
aussie.zone

I just wish I had the room and the physical strength.

I do have a few small patches of soil but they’re covered in aggressive grass runners, I haven’t had the soil tested, a pet was buried there and intruder cats use it as a bathroom.

I’d do raised beds, huge buckets or grow bags with trellises (I was eyeing off the mini pumpkins) but am trying not to set up anything that would be difficult on moving

1
Taleyareply
aussie.zone

Have you seen these? I've raised tomatoes, eggplants, chillis, peas, etc very successfully in these over the years. Too small for melons, but very good for mid-size plants.

(They do sell singles btw lol)

2

We may be actually passing on some of ours, but not this growing season. Still sorting the garden.

2

So I'm going axe throwing tm for a bucks and it was a very confronting waiver.

I don't have a beneficiary or executor :(

8

I’m not up to running around doing guerrilla gardening myself.

But how cool would it be to seed bomb abandoned lots with native wildflowers for native pollinators? (Not only bees - though they’re important).

You can make seed bombs as clay-soil balls, soil bound with flour, dried paper pulp, or soil filled eggshells.

Legality is dubious so check beforehand if you want to do it. And don’t use anything poisonous or invasive.

Edit: Scratch that. This video is saying not to use regular wildflower mixes as some species may be invasive. The natives may be a much better choice until I look at what’s in the bee/butterfly mix

8

I have considered lobbing a few into my neighbour's back garden (which is basically abandoned), but I'm not sure they would get enough sun or be able to compete with the weed growth.

7

alyssum are generally good, coriander and dill as well.

3
aussie.zone

Does anyone hate the media covering the AirBNB levy, through the "your weekend stay is going to be more expensive" angle.

8

How to pretend like you're speaking for the people when you're really speaking for big property.

7

Something funny to me is that out of the 5 weeks I took off work, traveling throughout the US and spending almost 2 weeks in Vegas.. it's the Friday night before I go back to work that I finally get drunk. At home in Melbourne. By myself.

3

Oh yeah, it was lovely! Perfect day to do another field trip!

I have been up since 5.40am though, so I think an afternoon nap is in order lol

2

Oohh yes. That’s super early. I think a nap is definitely due for you.

3

This weather is too nice for productive working. I'm just flapping about and staring out the window today. Going to get some sun soon.

7
aussie.zone

I think it would need a hint of vanilla or caramel to go with. Then yeah sure.

6

Still no. I might get licked by random hipsters.

7

I think so? I’d want it to be a little bit sweet though or fruity.

3
aussie.zone

Sooooo I bought some groceries to make a fish sandwich. I nearly accidently ran over my budget doing it and almost didn’t have enough for a haircut after finding out it went up in price by a few dollars.

I however did manage to grab some juice, coffee supplies and magical hash browns. Sadly the price of the hash browns also went up slightly.

Anyway I managed to fit in my haircut and get my food so I can self help myself early though I did have to give up a pack of lollies until next week and now I’m pretty much broke until I get paid next week.

Now starts the rest and I’m well equipped to bunker down and enjoy it all!

Also the hairdresser was pretty chatty. Took an hour to have my hair cut I think and nearly went over the limit for parking! Was a very nice person though so I don’t mind that at all and we had a good chat about things in general.

7
aussie.zone

Wahhh. Long long day out in the 'Rat using every last drop of my EQ to help smooth out a delicate family situation but it turned out good. I'm just wiped out though. Won't be able to drive back up there again until I buy a car some day but I will NOT miss the Western Highway for a second.

Highlight of the day was this VERY friendly boi. He hates kids but just showers everyone else with tender affection. I love him.

e: also I accidentally drank caffeinated tea way too late this afternoon, help

7
Duenanreply
aussie.zone

You didn’t get stuck in the traffic accident did you?

Thank goodness you managed to smooth things over with family.

Also how bad is caffeinated tea going to be with you? Is it going to keep you up all night?

4

Didn't get stuck in one, haven't read about it yet... That would've been really awful.

Caffeinated tea can definitely keep me up all night. Esp as I had my second dose of meds later than usual as well (that also can keep me up). Time for melatonin tonight I think.

3

Just a short one. Felt terrible at the start, but by the end I had a good rhythm and could've kept going for a bit I think. Doggo has shrugged it off like it was nothing.

3

Kmart have already started with the Halloween stuff - so I picked up a pair of ghost earrings but I'm probably gonna wear them all year round cause they are super cute (and spooky! but you can be spooky all year round) haha

6

Some people think spooktober started 2 weeks ago. I think I’ll wait a bit more before putting skelly & friends back in the front window

2

Oh no, earrings are a current obsession of mine so I got online to look, now I need to go to Kmart.

4

Just went to preston bun buns as they were the only bunnings that had the water timers I wanted (the simple dial ones, I don't need bluetoof to talk to a tap).

And jeez that's a big bun bun. almost rivals the one in norlane.

Also got a pressure guage for the tap which I'm far too excited about.

5

Watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I saw it as a kid, but don’t really remember it. The movie was famous for the technological first of mixing animation with live film.

5

My kid came home from work experience at 4pm. We ate dinner. She told me she tried out the bidets. She liked them. She said she was tired. I haven't seen her since.

5

I ended up doing a session of low impact exercises because I ate before I remembered that I had to finish this morning's session🙆🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️. I ate ribs and they were delicious. Fat Arse Friday living up to its name in my house!

I've organised a few days off over the next couple of weeks. Partly to spend time with the Minipeelers while they're on holidays, partly because I've been working really hard lately and I feel like I need it. I've also done something shifty: I haven't told everyone what exact days I'm having off because I want a "me" day. I need a day to just do what I want. I have no idea what I'll do yet, but it'll be selfish and self indulgent. Now I'm relaxing in bed after a nice shower, which I sorely needed because hand made lasagna on a commercial scale is bloody messy and I ended up wearing two types of bolognaise sauce and looking like a criminal. Gets me some odd looks on the bus!

5
aussie.zone

I have bruises near my wrist, it's sort of like just peeking above where my watch strap is (so one bruise on my hand and one on my arm) and my wrist bloody hurts. And it's not like I know what I've done to it, like I didn't have a major fall or something. I just woke up in pain.

Maybe if it still hurts next week I'll see the doc. But I'm just like ??? Why did this pain show up all of a sudden?

5

Don't get handcuffs that are too tight heheh

Nah I'm sorry you're in pain, defo see a doc if it persists 💜

6

That wouldn't be safe sane consensual of me if they were tight ;)

Hahaha, thank you though. Honestly, I could've just banged my hand a bit too hard

@Ceoofmyhouse56

Listened to the first episode Saturday afternoon Fever today.

It’s funny stuff. Thanks for that!

5

I got a bit of planting done today, and got my potting area & indoor growing area sorted out so I'm properly ready to do more. LED grow lights are so cheap and efficient these days, it makes it feasible to raise a lot of plants indoors. I've had some herbs growing over winter, and have a couple of shelves with varying lights and a heat mat for the summer seedlings. I added a couple of fans today for air circulation and to stop too much heat building up around the lights. It can get a bit too bright because it is open shelves, so I have put a curtain around it with a forest print which cuts the light and looks quite nice. Now I just need to get the garden beds outdoors done so I have somewhere to put all the plants once they are ready.

Tonight we're playing an old Aussie playlist of mine so

What's your favourite classic Aussie song and I'll tell you if I've played it already?

4
aussie.zone

Evie by Stevie Wright

Electric Blue by Icehouse

Throw your arms around me by Hunters and collectors

Island Home by Christine Anu

Thunderstruck by AC/DC

5

Electric blue, nice one!

How did I ever miss Thunderstuck? One of the best songs.

Ok. Let’s add TNT to the list too!

3
aussie.zone

I really don't know many but Reckless by Australian Crawl will always be the first thing I think of. That moment when the strings come in with the prechorus... goosebumps

4

Great southern land - icehouse

Solid rock - goanna

Sounds of then - gangajang

Streets of your town/ cattle & cane - go betweens

Everybody moves - died pretty

My pal - god

Do you see what I see - hunters & collectors

I’m stranded - the saints

Boys in town - divinyls

And of course Security - amyl and the sniffers

4

We played Great Southern Land, Solid Rock, Sounds Of Then and Do You See What I See. Top songs mate.

3

That's a good one. I normally play that but it's not on my list tonight. It is on my mp3 disk in my car though.

3

I Hear Motion - Models

The Music Goes Round My Head - The Saints

Rock'n Roll Music - Mental As Anything

Hungry Town - Big Pig

Great Southern Land - ICEHOUSE

Weirdo Libido - Lime Spiders

4

All good selections. I played Out of Mind Out of Sight by the Models. Nips Are Getting Bigger by Mental As Anything. We did play Great Southern Land by Icehouse.

3
aussie.zone

I like Powderfinger. Not a fan of Midnight Oil.

You played Lemon before off the Zooropa album. One of my favourite songs off one of my favourite albums. (I am aware they are not aussies).

2

Zooropa was my intro into u2. Had it in a discman walking around Nürnberg in about 1994.

4

It’s a joke about iPhone lack of innovation and presenting essentially the same phone year after year. (As in, Bluetooth being in every phone for decades)

Some GenZ humour I suppose but, I giggled more at the fact that I didn’t get it straight away. It’s almost surrealist.

4

The kinetic sculpture I bought from Temu has been installed. It looks pretty good - it's right in front of where I sit in the lounge room, and is much better to look at than the eyesore of a broken weather station that was in that position. Hopefully it lasts ok, it was pretty cheap.

Also I checked Central Animal Records to make sure the details were up to date and it says Melbcat isn’t registered with the council?

I’m going to have to ring them and check the details on there too. I know I registered her, it was a whole song and dance because she was adopted directly from her old owner and I’ve been paying her registration fees for years.
