I am always surprised at how quokk.au seems to score so high on these charts. I guess the smaller userbase tends itself to be more active with commenting/posting.
I think size definitely has something to do with it.
Another aspect may be quokk.au's position in the lower-middle tier of instances (by way of MAU). To me, it's currently at a spot where new, potential users have to put in a bit more effort to find it (not generally one of the widely recommended instances during broad recruitments [ex. reddit posts]). I think those types of users (looking for a more specific experience) are probably a bit more likely to be actively engaging with content rather than lurking.
Another component could be the quokk.au users not having a large amount of (or potentially any) anarchists to engage with offline, so they take the opportunity to interact with other anarchists when they can (online).
