The use of CANbus means there is less wiring in newer cars (yet even more reliance on electronics, of course).
You'd like to think so, but CANbus is really only controller to controller, with some sensors on the bus but most still running voltage or current sensing. The shit part of canbus is if you replace an addressed part, controller or sensor, you need the dealer laptop to set the new address in the relevant controller.
I was wondering that when I was posting this. New cars will have more electronics but I thought they might take better advantage of CANbus and more powerful central control units.

That's a lot of spaghetti. What kind of car are you swapping the drivetrain in?
It's going into a S13 240SX. Thankfully the rest of the parts are available specifically for the swap, but I'm not spending thousands on a swap specific harness so I'm going to strip these ones down.

Okay, that's a cool project! An S13 is one of my favorite cars. One passed me last week with fresh import plates, the driver looked like he was having fun. It's great that they have the swap parts available, that saves a lot of time construction/engineering. Also good to see some car hobby positivity on here. Good luck with the harness and the swap, i hope you'll post more in the future!
