A corrupt system is not a space where corruption is permissible, it's a space where corruption is mandatory. And by corruption I don't just mean graft. The ability to ignore Trump's lies comes at the cost of corrupting your ability to perceive reality. As people who have family members in MAGA or Qanon know, people vanish into the upside-down where school shootings are fake, but pizza pedos are real.

Having an "it's complicated" relationship with reality means being estranged from competence.

No.

Let's be honest, this grew to maturity under W and blossomed under Trump.

They wanted mindless obedience, and they got mindless obedience, and I think they are okay with it. As long as they keep winning elections.

I remember when we went into Iraq under W, how anyone going over to work there had to pass an ideology test, with questions about abortion.

These were never smart people, just obedient. It's only now that they have so massively fucked up under trump that all of a sudden they want smart people.

If they manage to extract themselves from iran, they will kick the smart ones to the curb and go back to mindless loyalty.

I agree and I might even argue that it grew to maturity under Newt Gingrich honestly.

I'm okay with Newt being the root of all evil.

But you can go farther back to Reverend Jerry Falwell and the moral majority. That was the point when the republican base started saying no more negotiations, no more deals. We want what we want, and if we have to elect morally bankrupt people to get it we are okay with that. This was the seed of our modern dictatorship and project 2025.

Republicans run for office on a platform that government is corrupt and inept, then they win elections and prove it's true.

But they were all approved by The Heritage Foundation.

...the same organization that put random interns in charge of Iraq's economy, and that turned out fine right?

Oh right, the red party of Capital is surely "Falling Apart." I wonder what that actually means to the author?
