EU Member States may, on a voluntary basis, notify and recognise national electronic identification schemes in their Member States.

Notice the MAY and VOLUNTARY for member states, and that it does not apply outside the states that decide it!
There is no demand by EU for this! EU is just not preventing it.

The paragraph you're quoting is describing the previous (current) state of digital ID systems developed by each state independently, and has basically nothing to do with the new system being developed here.

Yet, there is no requirement for Member States to develop a national electronic identification and to make it interoperable with those in other Member States. This has led to discrepancies between countries.
It was subsequently amended by Regulation (EU) 2024/1183 to address these shortcomings, improving the effectiveness of the framework and extending its benefits to the private sector. The amending Regulation entered into force on 20 May 2024, and each Member State is to make at least one EU Digital Identity Wallet available to its citizens and residents by the end of 2026.

This to me says pretty clearly every member must have a digital ID system by the end of 2026.

The EUDI Wallet is the reference implementation for the new system. The provided Android Age Verification app requires hardware attestation, as per the maintainer comment linked in the article.

This only says to make it available, not to make it mandatory to use or have, and it certainly doesn't say anything about being bound to hardware.
So my point stands, these fearmongering anti EU posts are just annoying and misleading sometimes to the point where they are outright lies.
