NYC pied-a-terre tax policy

As an FYI to those who are getting all huffity puffity over the pied-a-terre tax policy in NYC, this kind of puts it in perspective:

The hotel occupancy tax rate in New York City is 5.875% on the cost of the room. This tax is in addition to the applicable sales tax of 8.875%.

The pied-a-terre tax for properties valued at $1 million to $3 million, the rate is 4%; for those valued at $3 million to $5 million, it is 5.25%; and for properties valued above $5 million, the rate is 6.5%.
