Music of the [decade] communities
A handful of the decade-based music communities on lemmy.world have been closed by their moderator @[email protected].
Sadly, the reason for this is because PTZ is also known as Admiral Patrick, the creator of the Tesseract Lemmy frontend that was just the center of a great deal of controversy for being found to have a stealth ban list of instances, communities, and users that he did not personally agree with. These bans are forced onto everyone who uses Tesseract, without their knowledge and cannot be turned off. In retaliation for being called out, a lot of the music communities here on lemmy.world were locked and labeled [closed].
In retaliation to that childish spite, I have launched my own music communities on lemmy.today:

You have my word that I will not arbitrarily lock these communities. :)

I never actually used any of those communities. Was there really a need to have a different community for each decade of music? Is there that much activity? Knowing the size of the fediverse, I assume it would have been preferred to just focus on a single community called "/c/oldmusic" and require decade tags or something.
Boy I hope c/oldmusic has some 1400s violin for me to listen to!

These separate communities already existed. These are more than what is being replaced, but since I made them I expanded the scope to include all decades that I am interested in. It’s not about traffic, it’s about letting people subscribe to their preference.
I understand these are effectively just acting as a clone/replacement of a series of previously-existing communities. I am just questioning why those previously-existing communities were needed in the first place. If anything, this seems to be a good opportunity to consolidate those fractured discussions into one community.
You'd still need several, for 50s/60s/70s as "old music", 80s and 90s as "normal music", 2000s as "current music" and whatever the other ones were as "future music".
