Too bad they don't have innovative mouse button tech that makes button clicks last longer than a year before a double-clicking issue is introduced. Back when I used Razer mice, I went through at least one of those cheap ass products a year. After replacing 4 of them annually for the same probhlem, I switched to a Logitech G502 5 years ago and I'm still using it.
WDYM? Engineers spent endless hours making sure it does double click right after warranty ends! That took some effort! 😅
They do actually have that innovative tech. Or Close enough, at least. I used to have the same issue. I had razer, Logitech and zowie mice. All had the same issue after 2-3 years tops. Until I stumbled upon the razer naga pro in 2020 which had some optical switches. 6 years later and it's still going strong.
I’ve been using my naga for maybe 3-4 years now and still zero issues.
Same, somehow my naga is on like a 5year run now before it couldn't even reach end of warranty
I did have to swap the micro switches on my Logitech G502 after a few years as well. They aren't immune to this (quite the opposite). Swapping them on any mouse isn't exactly hard, but does require some tools (soldering iron, mostly) and a frankly annoying amount of time.
All of them could just use the micro switches that actually fit that application and none of that would be necessary.
By now there are several generations of 502's, from what I've seen online the earlier ones used more durable switches. I've used Proteus spectrum myself for close to 8 years and all buttons still work fine. And if say it was used quite heavily, both for gaming and WHF. I've only replaced it now because it was ugly and the rubber on the sides is gone completely in some spots.
My MX 2 lasted about 3 years. My MX 3S is going on for 4 years but I am starting to notice the scroll wheel sometimes misses a roll. Is there a way to get a BIFL mouse without the gamer aesthetic?
Endgame gear. Comes with optical switches, and you can switch them out easily. Opens up without ruining the mouse feet too and there's some custom PCBs you can get to use generic mechanical switches. No soldering required.
Can't speak for the longevity of the mouse wheel though.
I haven't tried it myself yet, but I've had my eye on the Ploopy Mouse for when my current Logitech dies
I completely misread what you were saying ... I thought you were advocating making you hold down a button for more than a year before releasing and pressing a second time to double click.
I assumed that was hyperbole but it still seemed impractical.
I had that problem with my mx 400 after using it for many years. Found a lifehack on YouTube where you put a piece of cardboard inside the mouse on the switch somewhere if I remember correctly. My daughter still uses that mouse. It's an easy fix that should work with any mouse basically. I think I fixed that one around ten years ago and it's still going strong.
Clever. I wonder if the mouse's controller is just figuring out the isochronous transaction rate from the host and waking up just beforehand in order to poll the sensors and respond to the transaction with low latency.
I'm guessing it's still interrupt transfers instead of isochronous but yes waking up just before it needs to.
Right, it would be interrupt. Been a couple years since I wrote my last host controller driver.
I definitely read it as "least innovative" and thought "... Why is this news??" for way too long
