Total remodel

We inherited my mom's house and started remodeling a year and a half ago. Funding it by selling our house, which meant we had to move in mid reno. 29 foundation piers to stabilize (not fully level), cast iron to PVC, copper to PEX, new electrical panel, new HVAC, all new floors, drywall, doors, windows, cabinets, and bathrooms. The only things that remain are one window and the brick fireplace. I think it would have been cheaper to build a new house. Also working on the outside- new paint, gutters, had to replace all soffits and trim because it was waterlogged mdf. Here's a pic of my husband's new greenhouse - used our old windows and fence boards where we could.

Could you please show what the house looks like now, after some time has passed? I also inherited a house like this; in my opinion, it would be more expensive to renovate it than to just buy a new one. Still, I’ll have to tackle it eventually though I must admit, it’s a bit daunting.

Yes, it probably would have been cheaper to buy or build, especially with redoing things after the first contractor, but we really love it. I'll look for some before and after pics.

Did you post any more info anywhere? I’m very interested in how you did the foundation piers, and how much that cost.

This is my first post about the work - though i probably have a few about the frustration. They wanted to do 42 piers to level but we settled on 29 to stabilize. It was about $30k. We probably could have found someone cheaper but i went with a company with a good reputation. It's a 2000 sq ft house and it had a 4"drop corner to corner. The doors had been trimmed over the years and were trapezoids. To do the work they dug 2' holes about 6' deep. A guy gets in that hole and stacks 1' cement cylinders.

You have done a tremendous job, and moving into a house in the middle of such a major repair is a real feat! Now that the most difficult engineering stages with the foundation and communications are behind us, you can finally enjoy the arrangement of cosiness. If you are just choosing a solution for a compact bathroom, at https://www.bellabathrooms.co.uk/bathroom-suites/baths/shower-baths.html there are excellent combined shower-baths that help save space without losing comfort. And the greenhouse with the use of old windows and a fence looks incredibly soulful and stylish!
