As soon as they pedestrianise or turn a road bicycle only, someone will go to court and the judge will always insist things are put back the way things were. Bat shit crazy.

i feel like part of the problem is that there are jackshit small "cars", if it was equally easy to buy a 2-seater with a bit of trunk space then i at least hope lots of people would buy that, and that would make things much less inherently antagonistic.

My hot take is that the standard modern car design is fucking horrible in basically every single way, and 99.99999% of people should instead get either a van, minibus, or a 2-seater.

Literally had 2 conversations about cars this year. No one cares about this. People care about how we make rent more affordable again, which is kind of necessary to survive.

I know a guy in Berlin who insists you need a car there. You do not.

People care enough to sabotage anything that tries to reduce car traffic.

I live in Berlin. I don't. Some friends have a car, but about 30% don't. But whenever we meet in a group of like 10 people it's usually about 1 or 2 who actually arrive in a car. It's just not needed. In fact, the ones that have a car usually have it for vacations, to visit friends outside the city or because of work.

And no one cares about having a good car. Everyone just wants a car and have enough money to live. At least that's what my friends usually talk about.

Indeedy. And if you have to move something that doesn't fit in the S-Bahn you can just get yourself a Milf, I mean Miles car.

I suspect that most car owners don't really have an emotional attachment to owning a car, they just use it as a tool. However there is also nothing wrong with enjoying driving either, I don't see any point in telling such people that they are evil or something. As long as there is good public transport most people will just use it anyway which will naturally reduce amount of cars on the roads. And I doubt that even passionate car enthusiasts really enjoy driving in a city so many of them will use public transport too, and only drive when it's enjoyable (on autobahns or whatever) or necessary / more convenient. Which is fine, this option should not be taken away completely.
