I do agree the number is probably dropping though, and will go even faster with the next generation of consoles. If you want, you can still find them in thrift stores easily, so anyone who wants one has easy access, but most people can't be bothered anymore.
I would straight-up support them ceasing the production of physical media if they were distributing digital media as DRM free, but unfortunately, that's antithetical to their goals.

Oh dang, good point. DVDs don't like temperature changes. It'd have to be built like a mini-fridge.
The temp fluctuations, the humidity, the UV, the different gasses and chemicals that charge often outdoors. Also any bugs or mold.

Hooray for physical media! There are enough super common DVDs out there to keep these stocked for a while.
Edit: @[email protected] has a great point. DVDs don't take temperature changes well. Maybe movies are better served digitally in this case. What if we made an Internet in a Box or Khan Academy on a Raspberry Pi with added movies that we, um, have permission to distribute over Wi-Fi.

Don't most public libraries have DVDs/BRs/CDs/LPs you can borrow? Or is it just in poor countries where we still use old computers?
They also offer books but people still build little libraries.
