That's quietly a huge milestone for open media.
Shame that no-one uses Xvid any more. We still need to wait a bit longer for H264 (AVC): https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Have_the_patents_for_H.264_MPEG-4_AVC_expired_yet%3F

So many xvid torrents… there probably still are.
I've still got thousands of old TV shows recorded in xvid.
H264 is already old news. We be using H265 and AV1 now.
Lots of media centres and TVs still can't handle those, either cos they're old or don't have the processing power to handle them.
What effect would this have on the world? Why should we celebrate?
