This incident falls into the classic paradox of:

  • Is the arrest a good thing because someone was held accountable?

or

  • Is the arrest a bad thing because it's evidence that there's a problem?

I lean the latter simply due to my insider knowledge of HCSO and Chronister's ilk; this kind of poor character is endemic and encouraged within HCSO, but Chronister likes to occasionally throw the press a sacrificial lamb to fool people into thinking he's a good sheriff tackling police corruption. Some of the nastiest people and organizations in the world occasionally do good for PR purposes.

It's like occasionally walking over to a house fire and throwing a bucket of water on it for a TikTok only for everyone to laud you as a hero firefighter; it doesn't have to stand up to any real scrutiny (i.e. "Why are you always first on scene for these fires?...") it only has to stand up to a passing glance by the average voter, especially in a time where politics and economics has everyone too stressed and busy to think as critically.
