This is why I don't trust foreign 'experts'. Indian Railways is already like 99% electric, with diesel used only on yet-to-be-electrified routes, and coal only on historic routes. This is a technology test, not an effort to expand clean energy.

Hydrogen is a good way to store energy but on trains it's not really necessary to store energy
It could be useful in places where the tracks cannot be electrified or when the power line has been damaged (usually due to landslides / rain / wind). Currently diesel locomotives are used for that.
Being lighter than air, of there's a hydrogen leak, it will accumulate at the top of the train, and the roof will be the worst affected bit in the explosion.
Also, that's usually on busy commuter routes in the cities. I wouldn't have a hydrogen train driving in a built up area either, to be fair.

Hydrogen powered and clean energy in the same sentence is mere green-washing marketing.
Depends on the source of the hydrogen. It can be done properly, as a battery store for excess renewables in times of low usage.
Hydrogen at the scale needed for transportation has always been sourced from fossil fuels and will be for the foreseeable future.
And the source of the vast majority of the world's hydrogen is indeed the fossil fuels industry and this is indeed green washing.
