I think most habit trackers focus too much on streaks.

After trying a lot of habit trackers, I realized they all made me feel the same way: if I missed a day, it felt like I'd failed.

That works for some people, but for me it made it harder to come back.

So I started thinking about what would actually motivate me to stay consistent. I kept coming back to the idea that progress should feel rewarding, not stressful.

So I made a tracker, I’m still improving it, and I’d really love some feedback.

I’m curious:

  • Do streaks motivate you or discourage you?
  • What keeps you coming back to a habit tracker after the first few weeks?
  • If you could change one thing about the habit tracker you’re currently using, what would it be?

If you want to take a look, here it is: Habit Hero

I’d appreciate any honest feedback, even if it’s critical.

I also hate streaks, it creates pressure and once you break them it is demotivating. I'd rather have whatever "credit" I'm getting for doing the thing continue to rack up even if I miss a day. Maybe even frame it like "in the last 30 days you did the thing in 20 of them (66%)" - then missing a day doesn't put me at zero, and I still have incentive to drive my number up.

Yeah I've thought the same thing, it's less I want a streak high score and more like I want just a regular old high score.

And maybe there's a streak high score also but probably I'd disable it.

I use one called Hindsight, but it’s not about daily habits, it’s about occasional ones. And it’s on iOS so I can use it on my phone. I don’t recall if it was free or if I paid.
