Even if it’s legal under french law EU law supersedes french law so this is still illegal.

I would encourage you to file a complaint to the applicable data protection authority.
Unfortunately not within my very limited capacity. Am severely chronically ill and can only manage a very limited daily time on screens.

IIRC subscription is a valid alternative, and irrelevant to the GDPR.
I don’t think so. It violates the same number of clicks rule.
