Nothing. If you were born in 1AD and earned 1,000,000 every single day without spending a single penny you still would not be a trillionaire today. He will never spend that wealth , he will use that money to get loans that he does not owe taxes on, using that money to acquire even more capital. He has stated his goal is 10 trillion. At no point along the way will he use his wealth or influence to directly improve any common person's life. He is a cancer on our planet, on our economy, and on our civilization.

My calculations make it 739,802

Baseline: 2025 * 365 = 739,125

Leap years: Floor(2025 / 4) = 506 - floor(2025 / 100) = 486 + floor(2025 / 400) = 491 (every 4th year except every 100th year with the exception of every 400th year)

1st of Jan 2026 to 5th of July 2026: 186

Total: 739,125 + 491 + 186 = 739,802

Why not just do 2025×365.2425 + 186?

Also note: the Gregorian calendar was not in use yet at the start of this, so that might throw off all your calculations

I wanted to show the full calculation, but that one works too.

And yes, you could do some more math to account for the 10 day drift the Julian calendar introduced but historians mostly use the proleptic Gregorian calendar which removes this for ease of use to better count orbits. If you want the actual sunrises since 1/1/0001 it should be enough to just add back 10 days.

sopuli.xyz

Wait so you're telling me 2000 was not a leap year? But 2200 will be?

I was too young to really pay attention that year.

That's interesting about the proleptic calendar and stuff.

2000 is divisible by 400 so it is a leap year. It goes "divisible by 4" is a leap year, "divisible by 100" not a leap year, "divisible by 400" the exception to the exception so this is a leap year too.

Did you account for the switch from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar?

Don't worry if you didn't, this has tripped up a number of apocalyptic religious cults as well, they had to rewrite their time tables to Doomsday when somebody pointed it out to them.

But yeah, basically, 10 days got wiped out of conceptual existence in the uh, great time refactor of 1582. ... and more confusingly, it wasn't like, globally adopted at the same time, so, sometimes, in some places, adoption resulted in the nullification of 11, 12, or 13 days.

No, I used the proleptic Gregorian calendar, so if you want to count sunrises you can just add 10 days. Historians use it for simplicity and accept the drift.

Excellent!

If Dr Who ever randomly abducts you, you'll be slightly better suited for the experiencd than most!

2

I hate that we've had to change this calculation from a billionaire to a trillionaire. Both are fucking disgusting numbers.

Also, I swear to God if anyone mentions compound interest I'm gonna strap you to one of Elon's exploding rockets.

14
sopuli.xyz

He's going to spend it paying top esports players to play games pretending to be him.
Elon is finally going to be the champion in all videogames.

48

Mare, just let Elon pay for you - you have the game, you have the money and you have the fun. Elon gets the “honour”, but nobody will ever believe him anyway.

Money isn’t the endgame. It’s power. He wants to own the world and have all the people inside of it report to him.

"Now what?" Is apparently helping to turn the United States in to Nazi Germany for "teh lolz"

Hey, Elon Musk could be in this thread, reading your comments, sobbing like a thing that sobs a lot. Why isn't this bolded.

4

He's waiting for the wildest comment on this thread and an invite.

2

He's a parasite, he will continue to feed on us until nothing is left. Maybe kill some more kids for fun because it's the only way he feels anything.

20

No money for social programs though, of course infrastructure, medical care and education has no role in helping him accumulate wealth, no sir.

1

Dude has to pay people to play video games for him... There's no way he could handle life on medium difficulty.

He is definitely not the first trillionair or the richest man. he is the first publicly recorded trillionair / richest man. Most keep the vast majority they have secret as fuck.

Most of that money is in Tesla stock so not much can be done with it. Maybe take out 10% to 30% of its value as a loan from banks with the stock as collateral then mostly buy some shit that will ideally appreciate in value. It's not liquid wealth so there isn't much you can do with it. $1B liquid would be far more valuable than $1T in stock evaluations.

Yep. Musk might be rich but he's not as influential as he tries to be. He's actually kind of pathetic in that respect, gets eaten up by the media and looks like a complete tool.

He tried so hard to be in the neo Nazi inner circle but he's just a rich wannabe in every fucking regard.

Kinda unfortunate honestly. If he just chilled without getting into politics and just worked on electric cars, boring machines, battery factories, rockets, and satellite internet probably would be a much more beloved figure. The whole twitter and political involvement / rigging is definitely a downhill move.

9

He got into politics because he saw the balance sheets at the companies he’s running.

His businesses desperately needed government backing and he saw an opportunity to buy himself into the most corrupt administration ever.

9

Probably accurate although the demand for electric vehicles and hybrids isn't going anywhere and most definitely the demand for batteries isn't going anywhere. Cheap boring and rockets are definitely more niche. Low earth orbit satellite internet has been massive in less developed countries with underdeveloped infrastructure. Maybe if we had something super valuable to mine on the moon or on an asteroid we lassoed into orbit. In short probably could have played the field like most tech companies do and been fine. Check out all the AI companies not going full alt right yet doing alright with massive operating costs to revenue.

It's like asking a hoarder what they plan to do with all of those .

It's a mental illness but instead of recognizing it as such, calling it out and getting them treatment, society celebrates them and says they are doing everything that everybody else should strive for.

12

because society is jealous. they wish they could be him.

they aren't jealous of a horder. they think that person is sad and gross.

I have family member who have a net worth of over 50million, all they talk about is how poor they are, how they can't afford anything, how everything is so unfair to them... etc. They believe they are struggling working-class people. They adore Elon and think he's a genius and they wish they could be as rich as him and they think if they were all their 'struggles' would be solved... they especially love the idea of never paying any taxes, because they think taxes are theft from themselves to 'waste' on poor lazy piece of shit who refuse to 'grow up' and go get 250k/yr jobs.

and there are lots and lots of rich people like my family who think the same way... and who think because they donate like a pittance of their money each year they are morally perfect human beings.

1
lemmy.world

Umm actually, people keep saying he's a trillionaire, that's not technically true.

He wasn't even if SpaceX was at its peak valuation. It was unrealized, floating on an actual liquidity of like 100 billion.

12

Yeah. IIRC he even needed external investors to buy the bloody Twitter.

5

He's going to use it for political influence to further his fucked-up Nazi ideals.

And, of course, get more money. It's never enough with these fuckers. They have a version of hoarding disorder. It's always on to the next grift, more money, more money, more money, more money, number must go up!

Until he's the only free person in the world and absolutely everyone else is either dead or a slave owned by him, he's not done.

9
reddthat.com

If I remember right, Musk made a comment on this that was around "Once you get enough money, you stop seeing it as money and more like a high score."

7

Yeah, a lot of rich folks said it's been about one-upping each other.

Mark Cuban was asked if he wants to increase his net worth. He responded that he's busy managing the Dallas Maverick's. But that interview seems to insinuate that there is an expectation amongst the wealthy to just keep accumulating wealth. Literally like a cancer that keeps growing.

2

And that folks is how I met your mother(capitalism).

1

He'll probably just continue working to diminish democracy across the planet and leave a legacy of hate and ignorance instead of using his wealth to leave a positive legacy, which would be easy as fuck since he'd basically just be paying others to do good things in his name and taking the credit.

Not a smart man.

Imagine having all that and still being a worthless gross PoS. Lol I would be the worst philanthropist you ever seen--- meaning I'd be giving money to good stuff like food and climate and eduction while simultaneously making life a living hell for anyone who votes against that stuff. I'm talking hiring people to nonstop hate on those types till they quit social media. Give me your money so I can buy the US Senate; we getting shit won.

6
lemmy.zip

He'll probably ask to toucuh kids on epstein island again after becoming a trillionare, and he'll probably be rejected again

4

At least he is saying that he wants humanity to become a two planet civilisation.

2

At these numbers it becomes meaningless, like infinity+1. All we know is that he can get whatever he wants.

2

You leave a dynasty of offspring that never have to work a day in their lives and turn out to be shit humans who use their inherited wealth to buy politicians and degrade the quality of life for average people for generations.

Seriously though. America's ultra wealthy are going to have generations of ultra wealthy born rich cunts that continue fucking our shit up.

Tax them out of existence.

Don't you see? if he has enough money then Grimes will love him again! It's not pathetic, you're pathetic!

My only doubt about this is: are people calling him a trillionaire USA style? I mean, they normally don't use milliards. They just jump from millions to billions. So it would make him a billionaire to all of us more "civilized" people, wouldn't it?

boonhetreply
sopuli.xyz

This is not a simple US vs rest of the world distinction. Long scale and short scale are both used in multiple countries and multiple languages. My own country uses short scale but with billion replaced by milliard so it goes miljon, miljard, triljon, kvadriljon. Then India has lakh (1,00,000) and crore (1,00,00,000). No, the two zeroes between commas weren't a mistake.

2

I want to make clear that I'm not shitting on USA. But I'm genuinely curious about how are they making the calculations. I understand what you mean, but it doesn't really answer my question. Either way, be it milliards, billions or trillions, we average Joes and Janes are royally and disgustingly fucked...
