This is the only one I have unfortunately. I've been told the spider was mostly black or a very dark shade of brown.

Perhaps European Nursery Web Spider, giant house spider, false wolf spider or even raft spider if near water.

Those seem to have that kind of elongated abdomen.

This is probably the most important first glance detail that allows you to really narrow it down, so you've done well on that. But, as you realised (I noticed the edit, more on that later), it's not actually that narrow.

My first thought was Clubionidae, then Gnaphosidae. But I can't really give you a better reason other than "because it looked like them". It's just experience from looking at tens of thousands of spider pictures. And none of your suggestions are bad on first glance.
